Our 2008 kids have arrived--17 of them in all. A wonderful assortment of colors and fiber types. See them on the 2008 Kids page.

Verdant Vistas Pygoras

Birthplace of outstanding registered Pygora fiber goats with stunning fleeces found across the country.
Home to the first Predator-Proof enclosure in Oregon.

Perched atop the hills southwest of Salem, Oregon, overlooking the lush Willamette Valley, the Pygora goats of Verdant Vistas flourish on grassy pastures and lots of loving care.  The original herd was established with offspring from the outstanding Pygora farms of Oregon where the breed began in 1978.  Now, kids born at Verdant Vistas frolic and thrive beside their folks and have offspring of their own who continue to improve the outstanding Pygora breed. Their sparkling personalities and silky, lustrous fleeces will win your heart!

Come and see us & some of our new kids at Sheep to Shawl held at Mission Mill in Salem. The date is Saturday, May 17. We'll be on the front lawn with an assortment of fiber animals: sheep, other goats, alpaca, llamas & maybe a hair horse.

All our doelings are now sold, but we have wonderful wethers (neutered males) and 2-3 super bucklings still for sale. We will be taking a delivery trip between Oregon and Minnesota this summer (and a Michigan buyer will be bringing our goats as far as MI). If you live along this route and want pygora goats delivered to you in late June or early July, contact us as soon as possible. Goats may also travel to you by air or ground transport.

Our 2008 kids have made their appearance/s and are now romping on the hill, tearing back & forth across the play ramps and chewing on our pants and hat & shoe strings (also the strings of our hearts!). These, without doubt, make up the most wonderful group yet (isn't that the way it's supposed to be?) in terms of color, fiber, personalities & conformation. See them on the 2008 Kids page. Cars slow down and sometimes stop as their passengers relish the antics of the small creatures in the pasture lining the edge of the road. We ourselves alternate watching from our hilltop window and putting other things aside to join them in their play. With the arrival of Oregon's fantastic spring weather and the joy of our spellbinding critters, both small & large, life is very good. Feel welcome to come & visit!

In January, 2006, the Mountain Lion Foundation constructed a Pedator-Proof pen at Verdant Vistas. The project was intended to provide an alternative to killing cougars as specified in Oregon's new Cougar Plan. These are dangerous times for cougars and other wildlife in Oregon. Read about the 2007 legislative bills that have critical implications for their survival and wellbeing (click pen picture). Your help is badly needed!

On the hills and in the barns of Verdant Vistas are found some creatures who are essential to what happens at Verdant Vistas. Among these VIPs are our two cats who run the two main barns. Each performs invaluable work & occupies a key position 'on the farm'.

Ben came to keep new PCA buckling Flan company during his first weeks at VV. Since then, he moved from barn to barn as Flan first joined our buckling Dwaine in the upper area & then when both fellows moved to the official "Buck Barn" as they grew older. Wherever Ben lands, he makes it home and livens up the premises. Our grandkids, Emma & Owen, think he's a 'cool cat'.
We call this distinguished fellow "our midwife cat". Jerry (Jerr-Bear) lives in the upper barn with the does & kids. More than once, when a mom-to-be was in labor & other goats had deserted her & we were not 'on duty', we found Jerry stroking her neck and keeping her company. He was definitely the "friend in need. . ." Now, he has time to relax and hang out in the hay feeder--until those ungrateful moms disturb his well-earned rest.

At Verdant Vistas, the scale is
small and personal, the attention
intimate and continuous, and all
our goats are above average.
Each has a name, a special place
in our hearts and a personality
all his or her own.
